Obama's overall approval/disapproval percentages in the Rasmussen poll have been stable at roughly 50% and 50% since July 18.

Given that stability, I suspect that the sharp rise in the number strongly approving of Obama does not represent fence sitters moving to his side, but rather those who already somewhat supported him moving to a position of strong support as confrontation sharpens and tempers flare.
What Rasmussen is charting is polarization and radicalization in roughly equal and opposed populations.

Those who liked Obama's handshake with Chavez and his blase attitude toward Ortega's rant are going to be ecstatic at the fond farewell Obama gave Chavez at the conclusion of the "Summit of the Americas".
